Architects & Retrofit Coordinators

Specify with confidence. Eliminate redesign risk.

HydroTop gives architects and retrofit coordinators a reliable, specification-ready solution for properties where conventional heat pump placement is not viable.

The Specification Challenge

The constraint that keeps coming up.

For architects and retrofit coordinators working on domestic retrofit, the heat pump external unit is a persistent design problem. On constrained sites, conservation area properties and terraced stock, finding a compliant location for an external unit can cause significant design iteration, or result in heat pump being excluded from the specification entirely.

Specifying HydroTop from the outset removes this constraint. With the unit housed within the roof void, the external design challenge disappears, and with it, the risk of late-stage redesign or value engineering.

Why Specify HydroTop

Designed to work within your process.

Planning-friendly

Designed to meet Class C of the GPDO. In most cases no planning application is required, including many conservation area settings.

Minimal visual impact

The low-profile aluminium cap projects no more than 150mm above the roof surface. Cap colour can be specified to match the surrounding roof covering.

Technical documentation

Full technical specification documents, installation drawings and regulatory compliance information available to support design submissions.

PAS2035 compatible

Designed to support compliant delivery under PAS2035. We work with retrofit coordinators to provide the documentation required at each RIBA or retrofit stage.

OEM neutral

Compatible with all major heat pump manufacturers up to 10kW, no constraint on the heat pump specification or supply chain.

Conservation area experience

We have experience supporting specifications in sensitive planning contexts and can provide technical input to support pre-application discussions.

CPD & Technical Support

We support your team.

We offer CPD-accredited technical presentations on HydroTop for architectural practices and retrofit coordinator teams, covering the product, the regulatory context, specification guidance and case studies.

We also provide direct technical support for individual projects, including specification review, planning submission support and liaison with our installation network.

If you are working on a project where conventional heat pump placement is proving problematic, get in touch. We can usually provide an initial feasibility view quickly and without obligation.
